About

Hi, We’re Can I Tell You About That

About Our Research

Our research is primarily focused on textiles, crafts, and design objects or architecture. Much of this research uses material culture as a foundation for analysing and understanding different works of art. From uniforms to tea pots and tapestries, I enjoy merging historical and art historical methods in my research on more everyday objects.

“There was gravity before Newton; there was economic determinism before Marx; there was sex before Freud.”

Jules David Prown in “Mind in Matter: An Introduction to Material Culture Theory and Method” (1982)

Can I Tell You about That

Flavie created Can I Tell You About That as a way of spreading the random and interesting research that they’ve done, so more people can learn and appreciate material culture. In the future Flavie hopes to expand this blog into videos or audio recordings, but for now we hope these posts about history and art are enjoyable for anyone visiting the site.

In my journey towards becoming a scholar, I tend to come across weird and wonderful stories around art, design, material culture, and history that I want to share with the world.
